FORT MYERS, Fla. –– Chris Carpenter, who came to the Red Sox in February as compensation for Theo Epstein, won't be making a regular-season –– or minor league –– debut anytime soon.
The pitcher tweeted Wednesday that he would be undergoing surgery on Thursday to remove a bone spur in his elbow. Esteemed Dr. James Andrews will be performing the procedure on the right-hander.
"Stayin positive and prepared to work harder than ever to come back as soon as I can this season! #dedication #onamission #redsoxnation," Carpenter tweeted.
In 1.2 innings this spring, the Kent State graduate has allowed four runs and two hits while walking five batters.
