Mario Williams is undoubtedly one of the NFL's premier pass rushers, which would make him an intriguing option for the Patriots, who would love to add some help in that department.
However, Williams is reportedly visiting an AFC East rival just hours after hitting the open market. The two-time Pro Bowl defensive end will meet with the Buffalo Bills on Tuesday night, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.
The Bills will also be hosting wide receiver Robert Meachem on Tuesday, according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
Williams, the first overall pick in the 2006 NFL draft, only played five games in an injury-plagued 2011 season, during which he racked up five sacks. Williams' career high in the sack department came in 2007, when he dropped the quarterback 14 times.
Meachem, who's been one of Drew Brees' targets in New Orleans the past four seasons, caught 40 passes for 620 yards and six touchdowns in 2011. His best season came in 2009, when he caught 45 passes for 722 yards and nine touchdowns.
