The 2012 Red Sox squad is starting to take form.

On Friday, general manager Ben Cherington announced that 16 players have inked deals for the 2012 season.

Catchers Ryan Lavarnway and Luis Exposito were among those to sign. Pitchers Chris Carpenter, Drake Britton, Junichi Tazawa, Felix Doubront, Mark Melancon, Michael Bowden, Stolmy Pimentel and Clayton Mortenson all agreed to terms. Also, Will Middlebrooks, Lars Anderson and Oscar Tejeda inked deals to solidify the infield and Ryan Kalish, Che-Hsuan Lin and Darnell McDonald agreed to backup the outfield spots.

With the agreements, all 40 players on Boston’s Major League roster are under contract for the 2012 season. Now that the roster is full, Bobby Valentine will work to trim down the roster over the next several weeks to make it 25 players for Opening Day on April 5 against the Detroit Tigers.
