Adam McQuaid is used to dishing out punishing blows, but he was the recipient of one on Thursday night.

Capitals forward Jason Chimera leveled McQuaid up against the boards during the first period of what was eventually a shootout victory for Washington. The play led to Chimera getting tossed from the game, but he avoided supplemental discipline, much to the dismay of many Bruins fans.

Chimera's hit was no doubt questionable, as the veteran winger took upwards of 10 strides before delivering the hit, although it ended up being much worse because McQuaid turned his back on the play.

The hit leaves the Bruins without McQuaid for Saturday's showdown with the Islanders, which is a tough break considering fellow defenseman Dennis Seidenberg is sidelined as well.

The Bruins locked up a playoff berth on Friday night by way of a Buffalo loss, so Claude Julien can afford to rest his troops. But you can bet McQuaid — the gamer that he is — is chomping at the bit to get back on the ice.

Did Chimera get away with one, though? It's certainly debatable.
