The Washington Capitals struggled through much of their game with the Bruins on Thursday night. That is until defenseman Dennis Wideman decided to take control and snipe a shot from in front of the net.
The Bruins' defense left a huge gap in the middle of the ice during the third period on Thursday, allowing the Capitals to pass around the puck and leaving Wideman with enough room to cruise on through and slap a shot pass Tim Thomas.
The B's did retaliate, eventually tying the game back at 2-2 and forcing overtime. But Washington took advantage in the shootout to cement a much-needed win in their fight for the playoffs.
