Arjen Robben Misses Decisive Penalty Kick, Neven Subotic Gloats Up Close (Video)There’s a wonderful German word, “schadenfreude,” which means taking delight in another’s misfortune. Another way of putting it is “gloating.”

Neven Subotic gave meaning to the word schadenfreude on Wednesday, and it was caught on camera for the world to see.

Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich met in a match up that effectively decided this year’s Bundesliga (German first division) champion.

With Dortmund leading 1-0 in the 86th minute, Bayern star Arjen Robben won his team a penalty kick after going down in the opponent’s penalty area. Dortmund partisans and players, Subotic chief among them, felt Robben had dived and conned the referee.

The Dutch winger then broke an unwritten soccer rule by stepping forward to take a penalty that he had just earned. When he missed, Subotic, who says he “hates divers” let Robben have it. To his credit, Robben took his rival’s gloating like a pro.

Dortmund went on to win the game, while Bayern continue to stumble. With a win or a draw in either of its last two games, Dortmund will become the first team to win the Bundesliga in consecutive seasons in almost 20 years — the first team other than mighty Bayern Munich.
