Things that don't happen every day: pigs flying, aliens landing and Major League Baseball teams losing to community college teams.
Well, that would make today an unusual day, because the Baltimore Orioles managed to pull off one of those feats. No, it wasn't the pigs or the aliens — the AL East last-place finisher in 2011 lost to the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota chapter.
The 2-1 loss does deserve explanation. The Orioles provided pitchers and a catcher for the Manatees to use, and the game lasted only eight innings.
Nevertheless, a win is a win is a win. The Manatees came out on top and, interestingly enough, this isn't their first experience beating a professional team.
They also claimed a victory over the Pirates in 2009, although Pittsburgh wasn't fielding top-level talent like Baltimore did Wednesday.
Hopefully this loss doesn't eat away at the Orioles' confidence too much. They have a real season to play, after all. Either way, I think it's safe to say this will be their last charity game for a while.
