The Red Sox were fairly aggressive in their pursuit of bullpen pitching this offseason. And heading into 2012 the team felt confident about the guys prepared to close out ball games. Things changed drastically on Tuesday.
Boston GM Ben Cherington now must look to adjust his once well-set roster, as anticipated closer Andrew Bailey's thumb injury will keep him out of the lineup for at least a few months. The likes of Alfredo Aceves, Mark Melancon and Vicente Padilla should fill the void in the meantime but there are still questions that will linger around that bullpen.
Cherington sat down with NESN's Don Orsillo on Tuesday to discuss Bailey's injury and the expectations for the newly-aligned pitching staff.
