The Bruins released a statement on Thursday afternoon denouncing the behavior of some “fans” who made racist comments about Washington’s Joel Ward following his game-winning goal in Game 7.

Ward was the victim of racial taunts and slurs on Twitter shortly after his goal in overtime helped the Capitals eliminate the defending Stanley Cup champions.

The Bruins’ statement can be read below.

“The Bruins are very disappointed by the racist comments that were made following the game last night. These classless, ignorant views are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization.”
