Denver Broncos Draft Quarterback Brock Osweiler as Understudy for Peyton ManningMaybe trading Tim Tebow was a good thing for the Broncos.

In the second round of the NFL draft on Friday night, Denver picked quarterback Brock Osweiler with the 25th pick — 57th overall. The former Arizona State quarterback only spent one full season as a starter in college.

In 2011, he finished 326-of-516 for 4,036 yards and 26 touchdowns. In 2009 and 2010, he was mainly used as a backup and played a total of 11 games.

With Tebow out of the picture, after being traded to the New York Jets, the Broncos needed another signal caller to be the understudy and eventually take the reigns from Peyton Manning.

Manning is coming off of multiple neck surgeries and Denver needs to have a backup in case something happens to re-aggravate the injury.

No one wants to see Manning go down, but it is good to have a backup plan.
