Kelly Shoppach was in the starting lineup for the Red Sox on Friday in the home opener. It makes sense, too. The veteran catcher has experience with the Rays, and he hits left-handed pitching well, something that can help with David Price on the mound.
It could also be the start of more playing time for Shoppach, too. Bobby Valentine said that the decision had nothing to do with Jarrod Saltalamacchia's early struggles. That being said, if Saltalamacchia continues to struggle, it could mean more playing time for Shoppach.
