J.D. Drew isn't walking through that door, fans.
With Jacoby Ellsbury hitting the 15-day disabled list with a sublexed shoulder, it's reasonable to think the Red Sox are doing their homework when it comes to available outfielders. Apparently, Drew hasn't been one of the assignments.
The Sox did not inquire about Drew's availability in the wake of Ellsbury's injury, according to WEEI.com's Rob Bradford.
Drew spent the last five seasons in Boston before this year and is currently a free agent. Many assume that Drew's career may be over, but the 36-year-old could return in the right situation — that situation just might not be in Boston.
Drew hit .264 with 80 home runs and 286 RBIs in 606 games with the Red Sox after inking a five-year deal prior to the 2007 season.
