Boston is breaking out the 1910-era garb again.
As the Yankees and Red Sox prepare to face each other on the 100th anniversary of Fenway Park's first game — April 20, 1912, between the Red Sox and the then-New York Highlanders — the teams will wear custom-made hats and uniforms.
The special New Era hats are designed to look like caps the teams would have had a century ago, Yahoo Sports reports.
The Red Sox hat is mostly white, like the ones the players wore last year against the Cubs when the teams dressed in the 1918 version of their uniforms. The Yankees hat is white with a blue "NY" symbol and a blue bill.
The Yankees' uniforms are plain road gray with the interlocking blue "NY," albeit it with a more Gothic flair.
Images of the uniforms for the Red Sox haven't been released yet, but drawings of the 1912 versions kept on file by the Baseball Hall of Fame show they look much like today's jerseys, plus some pretty awesome striped socks.
Red Sox management is pulling out the stops for the centennial celebration of Fenway Park, with a 100-ticket giveaway, autographs and a chance at a Guinness World Record among the plans so far.
The Red Sox won their inaugural game, by the way, beating New York 7-6 in 11 innings. And although the park and the clothing have changed throughout the years, fans will be hoping for a similar result Friday.
Or, at least a little early-20th-century-style fistfight between David Ortiz and a couple of Yankees (he's just shadowboxing with the Cubs' Aramis Ramirez here).
