Roger Goodell rules the NFL with an iron fist and a powerful hug.

The NFL commissioner was on center stage Thursday night for the first round of the league’s draft, and as each player was drafted, Goodell was there waiting for him on stage. And he was waiting with a massive bear hug.

Goodell wrapped up each and every draft pick who was in attendance with a fierce hug as they made their way to the stage for the traditional hat and jersey photo with the commissioner. Perhaps no one got wrapped tighter than defensive lineman Fletcher Cox who shared an extended embrace with Goodell, a hug that would make Ari Gold proud.

The best interaction of the night, however, has to go to San Diego’s first-round pick, Melvin Ingram, a defensive end out of South Carolina. Once Ingram reached the stage, he and Goodell did teamed up for their own special handshake.

That led Hall of Famer Michael Irvin, doing work for NFL Network, to rave about Goodell, calling him “RG I” in a reference to Redskins draft pick Robert Griffin III.

Check out that embrace below.
