Curtis Granderson’s Injury Won’t Crush Yankees, But Outfielder’s Stock Keeps Dropping Amid Messy Season
Amid all the injury news the Red Sox have been smothered in over the past few days, one tidbit that slipped through the cracks was the demotion of catching prospect Ryan Lavarnway back to Triple-A.
Lavarnway, who proved his value to the organization during a September call-up last season, was on a tear this spring, and his bat appears to be ready for the big leagues. But the 24-year-old's skills behind the plate still need some extra attention.
Red Sox management decided to option the big hitting righty back to the minors to hone his skills rather than giving him one of the team's final roster spots heading into Opening Day.
NESN.com Red Sox beat writer Didier Morais discusses why the move is best for Lavarnway's future and how he will benefit from the experience in the minors.
