The Red Sox backstop has been sizzling at the plate, belting three homers in the last six games. He's lifted his RBI total to 21 while raising his batting average to .274 from the .080 mark he had on April 19 — and for that matter, a .221 average on May 21.
And his teammates are paying close notice to his impressive climb. The sudden surge had Red Sox first baseman Adrian Gonzalez indirectly campaigning for Saltalamacchia to get a chance to shine in the Midsummer Classic.
"It's been awesome and it's been great seeing what he's doing," Gonzalez said. "As I said a couple days ago, I hope that keeps going and he gets an All-Star."
Through five seasons, the catcher has never been selected to an All-Star team.
