David Beckham expects to be a busy man this summer. He must keep the melody of his on-field efforts in perfect sync with the harmony of his off-field commitments.
Judging by a new Samsung commercial in which he stars, Beckham is already hard at work preparing for the coming months.
The L.A. Galaxy star appears in a web-only commercial promoting the new Samsung GALAXY Note smartphone.
It starts when he walks onto a set and notices a 15-foot wall of drums. After the director tells him what drums to aim for and the order in which to hit them, Beckham goes to work.
He knocks soccer balls off each drum and sounds follow contact. Many sports and music fans will be familiar with the tune that unfolds. It is Ludwig van Beethoven's Ode to Joy. The song may be heard at the opening ceremony of the 2012 Summer Olympic Games in London, Beckham's hometown.
Beckham's job as an ambassador for the London Olympics has kept (and will keep) him busy. He went to Greece to help escort the Olympic flame from its ancient home to the United Kingom. He will appear in several commercials selling all sorts of goods and services. To top it off, he is widely expected to play for Great Britain's soccer team as one of its three over-age players.
Will he find time, however, to lift the L.A. Galaxy out of last place? If the 37-year-old can guide the defending MLS Cup champions back to the summit, he should be fast-tracked to knighthood.
See Beckham make sweet music in the video below.
