Connecticut hockey players may need to learn how to play with the big dogs.

As the Hockey East looks to grow, commissioner Joe Bertagna now says expansion plans include the University of Connecticut, according to The Associated Press.

The Hockey East has 10 members right now but will add Notre Dame in 2013. UConn — a member of the Atlantic Hockey conference — would give the powerhouse conference a dozen teams.

Connecticut athletic director Warde Manuel and Bertagna said they "hope to know in June whether UConn will be upgrading its men's hockey program and becoming a member of Hockey East," according to the AP. Other discussions surrounding the school’s hockey program have included using Hartford's XL Center for games.
