Jose Canseco Joins Worcester Tornadoes, Remains Focused on Twitter FollowersJose Canseco recently inked a contract, setting up his return to the diamond. On Monday, the 47-year-old former major leaguer finally made his return.

Canseco was formally introduced as a member of the Worcester Tornadoes, a team in the Canadian-American League, on Monday afternoon. And naturally, the only thing the six-time MLB All-Star really wanted to talk about was Twitter.

After signing a contract that will keep Canseco in Worcester for the next two years, the social media fanatic thought it best to discuss his interactions on the interwebs.

“It’s entertainment. It’s fun. I’ve got a huge Twitter base with almost half a million people. For a retired athlete that’s a lot,” Canseco said in an interview with the Boston Herald. “I think some people take it too serious, though.

“[I try] to make it crazy, over the top, hilarious, fun and entertaining. And people love that.”

Crazy and over the top, indeed. Canseco has been known to tweet about anything and everything, from his thoughts on the sinking of the Titanic to a hoax relationship with a reporter from Buzzfeed.com. But through it all, Canseco remains unfazed.

“Everyone has embarrassing moments,” he explained. “But I think once you put them out there it shows that you’re human.”

Canseco was signed by the Tornadoes only after problems emerged in negotiations with a Mexican league team that has a strict zero-tolerance policy on steroid use.

Canseco did make a reference to his baseball career during Monday’s monologue, though.

“I think this [season] is going to be a great indication of how long I’m going to play, depending on my injuries,” Canseco said. “I’m excited to be playing with a great organization and having a lot of fun out there.”
