According to The Boston Globe, a league source has indicated that the Patriots are unhappy with Welker's decision to go public about their contract negotiations.
Welker made some appearances on ESPN two weeks ago, during which he referenced holding out at least through full-team minicamp next month. His words have reportedly only increased the chances that this coming season will be his last in New England.
Welker, of course, inked the team's franchise tender this week, meaning he'll make $9.5 million this season. That particular decision may hurt Welker in terms of leverage when discussing a long-term deal with the Pats, but it shows his desire to get back to work on the football field.
The 31-year-old wideout is coming off a season in which he had 122 catches, 1,569 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.
