Chase Utley Forced to Wear No. 21 on Rehab Assignment Because Mascot Wears His No. 26When superstars go on a rehab assignment, they usually get everything they want, including which jersey number they get to wear.

It seems like that doesn’t happen in Philadelphia. The Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs mascot FeRROUS wears Chase Utley’s No. 26, so Utley now has to wear No. 21 for the first time in his career when he begins his rehab assignment with the Triple-A Iron Pigs.

FeRROUS seems to be more important to the Phillies than the five-time All-Star Utley. Usually in the case of a jersey conflict, players work things out. In the case of Aaron Hernandez and Chad Ochocinco, for example, Ochocinco bought Hernandez’s number from him last season. Maybe Utley and FeRROUS can work something out in the next few days.

With the All-Star break coming up in the coming weeks, the Phillies are unlikely to rush Utley back, since he has had constant knee problems for the past couple of seasons. Who knows, if Ultey gets hot with Lehigh Valley, he might want to keep his new number.
