David Ortiz has acheived countless feats on the baseball diamond: World Series titles, All-Star appearances and Silver Slugger Awards, to name a few. So what medium has Big Papi chosen to try his hand at now?
The answer: culinary arts.
Ortiz is planning to release a newer, healthier version of his Big Papi's Kitchen Fresh Salsa. Now available in two flavors, "twice-the-spice" and mango, the salsa hits shelves at select Hannaford, Whole Foods and Roche Bros. supermarkets Tuesday and will be available at Shaw's supermarkets beginning July 1.
The salsa has been in stores before in 2010, but Ortiz's marketing agent, Alex Radetsky, said they are going for a fresher and healthier version this time around.
"David was trying to transition the salsa more into a healthy option," said Radetsky. "[He] lost weight in the off-season, and he's 36 and all about being healthy and being smart about his body."
Ortiz began Big Papi's Kitchen in 2009 and may begin dabbling in some other food-related projects, depending on the success of the salsa. Check out the salsa in the photo below.
