Jose Valverde isn't throwing spitballs, he says. He just sweats a lot.
In the aftermath of allegations that the he was doctoring the baseball, Valverde was asked about the incident by reporters before Tuesday's game.
The Tigers closer explained that he didn't throw a spitball, and that he was instead just wiping sweat from his face.
While you would think those are two very distinctly different motions, the Tigers don't seem to be worried. Because nobody said anything at the time that the spitball was allegedly thrown, the Detroit Free Press speculates that it's "highly unlikely" MLB will pursue any further action against Valverde.
