Matt Kemp Won't Choose Bryce Harper for Home Run DerbyWill Bryce Harper be playing in this year’s Home Run Derby? That’s a clown question, bro.

At least, it was to Matt Kemp, who will be captaining the National League’s team in this year’s edition opposite Robinson Cano and has said that he won’t invite Harper. However, Kemp is arguing that it’s not because of Harper’s junior status in the league.

“It’s not because he’s a rookie,” Kemp told USA Today. “It’s just that there are other guys out there that are capable.”

Harper, who is batting .280 with seven homers and 20 RBI is certainly more than capable, but what Kemp seems to be hinting at is that there might be some other sluggers out there who are more deserving.

“I’m not saying he wouldn’t do a good job in the Home Run Derby,” Kemp continued. “He’s going to have plenty of time to participate in many Home Run Derbies. Just not this year. Nothing against him. I love watching him play.”

Kemp has said that he already has a team of four players in mind, based heavily on stats.
