Michael Phelps undoubtedly goes through quite a bit of preparation to ready himself for the Olympics. The hours of workouts, strict dieting and maintaining focus are all key to the gold medalist’s success. But he also has to make sure he has a clean shave.
Unlike in professional hockey, where the athletes allow their facial hair to grow during the most important stretch of games, Phelps opted to shave the mustache he’s been growing before heading off to London.
Perhaps the clean shave will allow Phelps to move through the water easier. Or maybe he just realized how unappealing the mustache was and didn’t feel like showing his face at the Olympics like that.
Whatever the reason, Phelps appears to be ready to roll when the swimming events get underway on July 28.
