Report: Dwight Howard Trade the Focus of Rockets' Attempted Draft Pick DealsMost of Thursday's activity in the NBA draft will involve new picks. But that doesn't mean teams looking to sign big-name talent may not make some trades to try to turn lottery choices into championship contenders.

The Rockets are among the teams looking to make a trade, according to ESPN.com's Chad Ford and Marc Stein. Houston hopes to put together a trade that will help the club snag Orlando Magic center Dwight Howard.

"Sources say that Houston has discussed deals with several teams in the top 10 about moving up in the draft," the report says, noting in an update that the purpose of the moves is to get a package together for "a considerable trade offer" for Howard.

Sacramento, which has the No. 5 pick, and Toronto, at No. 8, are reportedly in the mix to move selections to Houston. The Rockets have picks No. 14 and 16 right now.

Howard has been at the center of trade speculation for some time. The disgruntled All-Star had a rift with now-former coach Stan Van Gundy throughout last season and had asked to be traded. He then agreed to stay with the Magic for the rest of his contract, which runs through next year, before missing the last 15 games of the season and the playoffs with a back injury.

The six-time NBA All-Star averaged 20.6 points, 14.5 rebounds and 2.1 blocks a game last season.
