That may have been at least somewhat true, but shortly thereafter, Bubba Watson and Rickie Fowler both indicated that Mickelson had become increasingly annoyed with cell phone use among the gallery.
The way that Mickelson reportedly voiced his displeasure with that is, well, ironic.
ESPN.com reports that Mickelson actually texted PGA commissioner Tim Finchem from the sixth fairway at Memorial to complain about the lack of policing of fans with cell phones. Mickelson had reportedly become annoyed at fans who were taking his picture with camera phones.
The PGA Tour changed its policy regarding cell phones prior to last season. Fans are now allowed to bring their phones onto the course, where there are designated areas to make calls. They are also instructed to not use the phones to take pictures on the course as well. That, of course, isn't easy to police and members of the gallery often break the rule.
Because of that, Mickelson obviously reached his breaking point over the weekend.
