Olimpia (of Honduras) will face the Rossoneri at Gillette Stadium. It replaces Cruzeiro, who had to withdraw from the exhibition game due to a scheduling conflict.
Tickets are on sale now. The Milan-Olimpia game will kick off at 4:30 p.m., while the New England Revolution will face Sporting Kansas City at 7:30 p.m., completing the doubleheader.
Olimpia is the biggest and most successful club in Honduras. Founded in 1912, it is celebrating its centennial season and will make the trip to New England as the reigning king of Honduran soccer. It won the 2011-12 Apertura and Clausura titles, bringing its championship tally to 25.
Olimpia is a noted producer of talent, boasting the likes of Wigan Athletic's Maynor Figueroa, Stoke City's Wilson Palacios as former players. Its current roster includes goalkeeper Noel Valladares and defender Jhony Palacios, who played for Honduras at the 2010 FIFA World Cup as well as 2007 MLS MVP Luciano Emelio.
Milan is a team in transition, having seen a number of veteran stars leave the club since the end of the 2011-12 season. Thiago Silva, Clarence Seedorf and Alessandro Nesta are no longer wearing the famous red and black shirt, but Kevin-Prince Boateng, Alexandre Pato and Robinho are names known to soccer fans around the world. The new-look Milan hopes to wrest the Serie A title away from Juventus in 2012-13.
