Editor's note: The temperature gauge is a Bill James-created statistic that measures how hot or cold hitters are. We will spotlight Red Sox and opposing team temperatures on game days.
The Red Sox entered Friday's series opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on a torrid pace. A healthier version of the Red Sox lineup, bolstered by players returning from injury, had lifted the team to a pair of series victories to open the second half of the season.
The Blue Jays stifled the sizzling Sox on Friday, though, taking the first game of the weekend series 6-1.
But, although some of Boston's big hitters were shut down Friday, the team still boasts a handful of players who are clicking at the plate. Adrian Gonzalez, who went hitless on Friday, was tearing the cover off the ball earlier in the week. Cody Ross, meanwhile, came into the Toronto series brimming with confidence after a walk-off home run on Thursday.
Here are the temperatures for the Red Sox and Blue Jays for July 21.
