As of Tuesday morning, Ryan Dempster is still a member of the Chicago Cubs.
That could all change at any point, and there’s probably a good chance that it does, but despite what your Twitter machine may have told you, the veteran hasn’t officially been dealt to the Braves. That wasn’t as clear on Monday, when reports surfaced that Dempster was Atlanta bound.
Dempster took to Twitter to squash the trade rumor late Monday afternoon, saying that he didn’t know where such information came from. Cubs manager Dale Sveum thinks he has an idea, though, blaming “the Twitter” and “the Facebook” for the premature reports.
CSNChicago.com’s Patrick Mooney tweeted out the following on Monday night, shortly before the Cubbies took down the Pirates 2-0.
Sveum: “The Twitter, the Facebook, the things that get produced and published that aren’t true is just off the charts.”

Once again we see the dangers of the crazy social media driven world we live in. Sveum did admit that Dempster could get traded at some point — Tuesday perhaps? — but clearly many of us baseball enthusiasts jumped the gun on this one.
Dempster was at least able to laugh the whole thing off, joking that if it’s on the Internet, it must be true. The only problem is that some people truly believe that logic.
