They didn’t coin the phrase “Bend it Like Beckham” for nothing.
The 37-year-old Galaxy midfielder has clearly lost a step from his Manchester United prime. But that’s still plenty good enough to largely dominate in MLS, and his free kicks are still as sweet as anybody anywhere in the world.
On Saturday, in a game against the Portland Timbers, David Beckham delivered a trademark moment, scoring a free kick goal from just outside the penalty area, bending the ball just over the Timbers’ wall past goalkeeper Troy Perkins.
The goal was one of two on the day for Beckham, with teammate — and Irish National Team captain — Robbie Keane also netting a couple. The Galaxy, coming off an MLS Cup title last season, maintain a middling record of 8-10-2, but also just got star defender Omar Gonzalez back from a longstanding knee injury.
As for Beckham’s goal, which you can see in the video below, you might say the Englishman put a little English on the ball.
