Many a major leaguer has lost track of how many outs a team has and jogged nonchalantly off the field, only to have to return to end the inning.
But very few have stayed on the field with three outs, not realizing the inning was over.
That's what happened to the Colorado Rockies defense on Sunday. The Rockies finished off the Reds in the top of the fifth, but none of the Colorado players knew it. The umpire had to pop up and give a helpful three fingers before the players started jogging off the field.
That led to a little consternation from the in-game commentator, who clearly didn't approve of the mental lapse.
