The Valencia and Argentina midfielder is one Ferrari and over $300,000 poorer after the luxury vehicle caught fire and burnt to a crisp on Monday, according to Reuters.

“The blaze seemed to have been caused by some sort of short circuit,” Reuters reports a Valencia spokesman said.

The 24-year-old was unharmed in the incident.

This is the second high-profile mishap Banega’s had with an automobile in recent months. His 2011-12 season came to a premature end in February when his car rolled backwards and broke his leg as he was filling up his gas tank.

Despite his injury, Banega is regarded as one of world soccer’s top young midfielders. A run of fine performances for Valencia and Argentina could earn him a raise, bonuses and possibly a lucrative transfer. He has plenty of time to buy and ruin a few more Ferraris before his career is over.
