U.S. women’s soccer goalie Hope Solo isn’t a stranger to partying, and it appears she isn’t the only Olympian that looks to have a good time during the games.
Solo revealed in an interview with ESPN The Magazine that the Olympic Village is often home to some wildness, with the Olympics’ highlights often coming off the athletes’ respective playing surfaces.
“There’s a lot of sex going on,” Solo reportedly said.
As other athletes also revealed, the Olympic Village actually mirrors a frat house at times, with all-night partying, random hookups and the universal sock on the doorknob signal becoming the norm.
“With a once-in-a-lifetime experience, you want to build memories, whether it’s sexual, partying or on the field,” Solo said. “I’ve seen people having sex right out in the open. On the grass, between buildings, people are getting down and dirty.”
Olympic athletes sometimes face curfews and other restrictions imposed by their coaches, but apparently they’re not always enough to cut down on the partying. Solo even recalled a time when she partied alongside some celebrities.
“I probably shouldn’t tell you this, but we met a bunch of celebrities,” Solo said. “Vince Vaughn partied with us. Steve Byrne, the comedian. And at some point we decided to take the party back to the village, so we started talking to the security guards, showed off our gold medals, got their attention and snuck our group through without credentials — which is absolutely unheard of.
“I may have snuck a celebrity back to my room without anybody knowing, and snuck him back out,” she added. “But that’s my Olympic secret.”
Don’t worry, Hope. Your secret’s safe with us.
