Keeping Jeremy Lin would cost the Knicks a pretty penny, but some fans in The Big Apple think the team should shell out the cash.
Thousands of Knicks fans are flocking to Change.org in order to sign a petition started by a user by the name of "I Am Linsane." The petition calls for the Knicks to match the Rockets' offer, which is for three years and $25 million.
The Knicks will reportedly let Lin join the Rockets rather than matching the offer. If New York were to match, it'd be on the hook for $14 million in salary during the third year of the deal and millions more in luxury tax.
Still, "I Am Linsane" and many others (over 4,000 as of early Monday morning) find Lin to be a leader worth the dough.
"Jeremy Lin is the best thing that has happened to New York Knicks basketball in the last 20 years. With Jeremy Lin as the team's leader, the team won," the petition's description reads.
Lin is also described by the creator as having the "personality and character that fans love."
Unfortunately for those fans, Lin also has a contract the Knicks hate.
