Now it appears Axelsson might soon return to the NHL, as the 37-year-old is eyeing a comeback in the league after spending three seasons with Frolunda of the Swedish Elite League, according to CSNNE.com.
Axelsson's agent, Neil Abbott, reportedly said that he is talking to two teams about the veteran forward returning to the NHL, and that he should have a better idea about what is possible by the end of July.
Axelsson spent all 11 of his NHL seasons with Boston, showing great penalty-killing ability and consistently doing what was asked of him on any given night. The numbers weren't eye-popping, with Axelsson's career high for goals sitting at 17 and points at 36 (2002-03), but he was a solid contributor who showed plenty of leadership during his time with the Bruins.
"PJ would like to finish his career in the NHL and I am trying to achieve that for him," Abbott wrote in an e-mail to CSNNE.com.
Axelsson, who played in 797 career regular season games with Boston, last skated with the B's in 2008-09.
