While most people always knew it, it took an overly exuberant Russian cameraman to prove that the old adage “It’s only funny until someone gets hurt” is nothing more than a bold-faced lie.
On hand to film Yenisey Kasnoyarsk’s game against Shinnik Yaroslavl, the patriotic cameraman was roused into action by the playing of the Russian national anthem.
Sprinting onto the field to film the players, the cameraman kicked up a divot with his trip on the edge of the encircling track. His ensuing attempt at a barrel roll was so poorly executed that players from both teams couldn’t suppress their laughter — even after realizing the unfortunate videographer was seriously hurt and had to be stretchered off the field.
The video reminded us of some other notable cameraman spills.
Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers was busy celebrating his home run when the backpedaling cameraman took a loss after crossing his feet. Somewhere, Ellis Hobbs is nodding sympathetically.
Meanwhile, this video gives a behind the scenes look at what it’s like to eat it while filming on national television.
Check out the Russian cameraman’s tumble in the video below.
