On Thursday evening, Sir Alex Ferguson led his Manchester United team into the limelight as he has done for over 25 years.

But this time, the Red Devils weren’t walking onto a soccer field. They were strolling down a catwalk.

As part of its world tour, United participated in a fashion show in Shanghai, China. The event was organized by Swiss watch maker Hublot as part of a charity event to support the Manchester United Foundation.

Ferguson was accompanied by Rio Ferdinand, Javier “Chicharito” Hernandez, new signings Shinji Kagawa and Nick Powell and a host of other United players. Each team member sported Hublot watches as they strutted down and posed on the runway.

Ferguson was happy to test his mettle in the realm of high fashion, according to Manutd.com.

“We are very happy to be in China and to be able to bring such a fantastic fashion and charity event to Shanghai,” Ferguson said. “The money raised for the ‘United for UNICEF’ partnership is invaluable in protecting the lives of young people across the world, and we are pleased to be able to harness the power of our partnership with Hublot to help that cause.”

Last season’s Premier League runner-up is clearly mixing business with pleasure in China. The team will play three more friendlies before the 2012-13 campaign gets under way.
