It recently caused a bit of a political stir here at home in the United States when it was discovered that the Red, White and Blue's Olympic uniforms had actually been manufactured in China.
While some openly wondered whether it even mattered that China was behind the uniforms' production, the 'scandal' did reach high enough that figures like Sen. Harry Reid and Rep. John Boehner commented on the matter. As it turns out, they may well have been onto something, as Spain recently discovered the dangers of outsourcing Olympic uniform production.
Spain's Olympic uniforms were manufactured in Russia. We have no idea if that has anything to do with the reason they're so ugly.
The Spanish tracksuits, especially, are overtly garish, featuring a blinding amount of orange and red, and just generally being a poorly-thought design all around. One can only speculate that the idea was to give the uniforms a bit of cultural flair. We'll take the traditional Olympic streamlined designs, thanks.
The uniforms are so bad, the country's own athletes have taken to social media to openly mock them:
