It may take UMass-Amherst hockey fans a little while to get used to not seeing Toot Cahoon behind the bench this season, but John Micheletto is hoping to make that transition as smooth and painless as possible.

According to UMass, Micheletto will be introduced as the new head coach of the Minutemen’s hockey program on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. ET, becoming just the third head coach since 1993.

The Chicago native has New England ties, graduating from Milton Academy in 1984 and playing collegiately at Dartmouth. Micheletto has coached at Union, Notre Dame, with USA Hockey and most recently, Vermont, all in assistant and associate roles. In addition to serving as recruiting director of the Catamounts hockey program, he also worked very closely with the team’s power play unit and forwards.
