Jason Terry's Jersey Would Not Be Weirdest Number Retired By NBA Team If Mavericks Followed Through (Photos)Jason Terry
played eight seasons with the Dallas Mavericks, and by any individual or team measure, his time with the organization was a success.

The 6-foot-2 guard won the NBA Sixth Man of the Year award for the 2008-09 season and was a pivotal member of two NBA Finals teams, including the 2011 squad that downed the reviled Miami Heat to win the title. He is fourth on the all-time list for career 3-pointers made, and he is now a member of the Boston Celtics — a team for which he has big plans.

Terry believes the perfect way to cap off his career would be to see his No. 31 raised to the rafters of the American Airlines Center one day. If he does not at first seem like retired number material, keep in mind that teams have retired numbers for stranger reasons.

Whether it is a player having his number posthumously retired by a franchise he despised or a team retiring the number of a player who did not even play the same sport, NBA teams have made some head-scratching moves when it came to taking digits — or tangible objects — out of commission.
