Danny Valencia's arrival in Saturday's game against Cleveland made him the 48th different player to appear in a game for Boston this season.
That total is the third-most in the majors behind Toronto (51) and San Diego (49) and one shy of the Red Sox' total in 2011. Considering rosters expand in September, the team will likely eclipse last season's mark when it receives its infusion of youth next month.
