It takes a brave man to step into the octagon. It takes a braver man to do so with only one good arm.
That's exactly what Nick Newell does on a consistent basis, and he's thriving in mixed martial arts despite his disability. Newell, who goes by the nickname "Notorious," improved to 3-0 in the lightweight division on Friday by knocking out David Mays via a vicious knee to the face.
Newell, a Connecticut native, has a left arm that stops past the elbow because of a condition called congenital amputation. Despite being at a disadvantage, he pursued wrestling in high school, and that has since evolved into a successful MMA career.
