Boys will be boys.
The Giants are making headlines on Monday morning and it's not for anything they've done on the field — not even their 26-3 win over the Jets on Saturday. It all has to do with second-year player Prince Amukamara, third-year player Jason Pierre-Paul, an ice bath and punter Steve Weatherford's video skills.
Video of Pierre-Paul apparently hazing Amukamara was posted by Weatherford on his Twitter account. It has since been removed (and Weatherford has tweeted an apology), but the damage was done.
"Yeah, um, well, I mean, I just don't get it. I don't understand the rules," Amukamara told the Star Ledger. "I mean, I'm not a rookie anymore, so I don't know why I'm getting thrown in the tub. I know it's all love. No one ever likes it, especially when it's you [versus] eight and no one's helping you. But it doesn't mess up our team morale or anything."
Head coach Tom Coughlin called parts of the video "inappropriate," and was upset that the incident was made public.
"Anything that occurs within this family or within our group should not be a part of any social media aspect," Coughlin said during a conference call on Sunday. "I'm going to address that strongly, and I've spent a little time on that this preseason."
"Sometimes I think they take it overboard just because they're vets they get to be mean about it and tell you what to do," Amukamara added. "I just kind of flipped the whole script and kind of had fun with it with being insubordinate a little bit just so it can be more playful and I think that that whole vibe just creates a great locker room atmosphere."
