Report: Patriots Not Expected to Sign Plaxico BurressThe Patriots flirted with the idea of signing Plaxico Burress, but it doesn't look like they're ready to take the plunge.

The Pats don't plan to sign Burress in the wake of his workout with the team on Sunday, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter (via Pro Football Talk).

Burress would have given New England another solid red-zone target, but the team is already pretty stacked at the receiver position. Had Bill Belichick brought in the veteran, it would have meant even more competition amongst the group and could have led to the release of someone currently on the roster.

The idea of Burress in a Patriots uniform is an interesting one, nonetheless. Not only did he haul in the game-winning touchdown in Super Bowl XLII, but he's shown an ability to still perform at a high level, grabbing eight TD catches with the Jets last season.

For now, however, it doesn't look like Burress' next catch will be on a pass delivered by Tom Brady.
