BOSTON — Pedro Beato's stay in the majors was short and sweet. A day after coming
on for a win in relief for the Red Sox, Beato has returned to
Pawtucket.

Beato lost his roster spot after the Red Sox called up Daisuke
Matsuzaka
, who took the mound Monday, and Ryan Kalish, who came up for
an injured David Ortiz. But Beato still impressed Red Sox manager Bobby
Valentine
in his short time with the team.

"Pedro Beato, who I had never seen before, did just a fabulous job — two innings, shutting them down," Valentine said.

Beato, who was acquired from the Mets in exchange for catcher Kelly
Shoppach
, said he is embracing the change but is still getting used to the
Red Sox organization.

"I'm happy with it, and it's part of the game," Beato said of the trade. "The guys are great here, and that's a very important part of adjusting to a new place."

Ortiz was placed on the 15-day disabled list, and Kalish took his place on the roster. During 25 games for the Red Sox this season, Kalish has batted .203 with five RBIs.
