Allen IversonThe call to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame came late for Reggie Miller and a few others who were enshrined last weekend. Although they have been eligible for some time, standout players like Jamaal Wilkes, Mel Daniels and Chet Walker had to wait a while to see their plaques added to the hall in Springfield, Mass.

The clock is ticking on a few other retired greats. For some that is a good thing, as it means they are getting closer to what should be certain induction. For others that could be a bad thing, as the more time passes, the more likely it is that voters may forget their contributions to the game.

Now that the 2012 festivities are over, it is time to look forward. Several players who have hung up their shorts for the last time belong in the Hall of Fame, and absolutely must be inducted sooner or later for the museum to retain its legitimacy. Some have been eligible for years, while others have to wait until the requisite five-year waiting period has passed, but all of them should one day be immortalized alongside other greats of the past.
