In what was a very scary moment for baseball, A’s pitcher Brandon McCarthy left Wednesday’s game against the Angels after getting hit in the head by an Erick Aybar line drive.
Pitching in the fourth inning of what was then a 3-1 game in favor of Los Angeles, McCarthy couldn’t react in time to the ball hit by Aybar and was only able to turn his head at the last moment to avoid a more serious injury. The ball bounced all the way to A’s third baseman Josh Donaldson, who had the awareness to throw Aybar out at first before both sides turned to focus on McCarthy’s well-being.
The righty stayed on the ground for some time before walking to the clubhouse under his own power, and at this time there is no further update on his condition.
