The Toronto Blue Jays are weighing in on the controversy surrounding shortstop Yunel Escobar and his homophobic eye black, and they are not happy.
After word began circulating that Escobar's eye black had a gay slur written on it, the league announced that it was investigating the matter. Now, the Blue Jays have released a statement.
"The Toronto Blue Jays do not support discrimination
of any kind nor condone the message displayed by Yunel Escobar during
Saturday's game," the team said on its website. "The club takes this situation seriously and is
investigating the matter."
The Jays will hold a news conference at Yankee Stadium on Tuesday with Escobar, manager John Farrell, general manager Alex Anthopoulos and coach Luis Rivera.
