Cody Ross Wants to Return to Boston, Says He's in 'Beginning Stages' of Talks With ClubThe positives for the Red Sox this season have been few and far between, but it's tough to deny that outfielder Cody Ross has been one of the bright spots.

The outfielder — who the club signed to a one-year, $3 million deal — has been a steal in his first season with the Red Sox. He has 21 home runs with 77 RBIs, and is regarded by many as a good clubhouse guy.

It's safe to assume that Ross will be in line for a nice little raise after producing and doing so in a city like Boston. If he had his choice, the free-agent-to-be will be back in Boston next year.

This is what Ross had to say in his ESPN.com diary.

"I'm a free agent at the end of this season. There are talks going on with the Red Sox. We're in the beginning stages of talking. Hopefully we can get something done. Obviously, I want to come back here and be a part of this team. I think this will be a really good team for a long time. I think they'll make some really good moves.

"The No. 1 thing for me is winning. I want to win. At this point in my career, there is nothing that is going to satisfy me in baseball more than winning. Money is good, yes, but that only goes so far. I've seen a lot of people make a lot of money and never win or not play well and not be happy. Winning is the number one thing for me. "
